Vol. 433 No. 6

Written Answers. - Redress of Wrongs.

Brendan McGahon

Question:

91 Mr. McGahon asked the Minister for Defence if, in respect of the 12 month period from 1 June 1992 to 31 May 1993 he will give the number of officers, of the reserve of officers, An Foras Cosanta Áitiúil in the Eastern Command, who have submitted an application for redress of wrongs in accordance with section 114 (1) of the Defence Act; the number of cases of those submitted that have been dealt with; if he will give the length of time those which have not been dealt with have been awaiting consideration; and when he expects to deal with all outstanding cases.

One application for redress of wrongs in accordance with section 114 (1) of the Defence Act, 1954 was received during the period 1 June 1992 to 31 May 1993, from an officer of An Forsa Cosanta Áitiúil serving in the Eastern Command. The officer concerned was interviewed on two separate occasions in connection with his application. I am informed by the military authorities that as a result the officer has now resubmitted his application which is at present being investigated. I understand that the matter will be submitted for my decision shortly.
