Question:29 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Health the progress, if any, which has been made in fitting hospitals with combined heat and power units (CHP); and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Hospital Equipment.
The policy of my Department is that combined heat and power units should be installed in hospitals where they can be justified on economic and technical grounds.
Feasibility studies in relation to the installation of CHP units are being carried out in several hospitals. A contract has been placed for the provision of a CHP unit in one hospital and a scheme to instal one in another hospital is at an advanced stage. It is expected that the former will be installed and running in 1993 and the latter in 1994.
