Vol. 433 No. 7

Written Answers. - Offshore Islands' Health Services.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

28 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the Government's policy on the provision of health services to those living on our offshore islands; whether he regards the present services as adequate; and the proposals, if any, he has for improving these services.

The provision of medical services for people living on offshore islands is a matter for the health board in whose catchment area the island is situated.

My Department is concerned to ensure that the people living on the islands have as much access to health care as can reasonably be provided in the circumstances. My Department is also participating in an Interdepartmental Committee which has been set up by the Department of the Marine to look at all services for offshore islands.
