Vol. 433 No. 7

Written Answers. - Nursing Training Applications.

Michael Creed

Question:

59 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, he has to introduce a central application bureau to process applications for entry into nursing training.

There is no doubt that the present method of application for admission to nurse training can be criticised as being cumbersome and expensive for both applicants and the training schools.

As the Deputy may be aware, An Bord Altranais is currently undertaking a review of the whole area of education and training of nurses. I expect the final report of the board to offer various options for my consideration as to the future direction which nursing education and training should take. It is my intention to consider fully the central application issue in the context of my response to the report on nurse education and training which I expect to receive from an Bord Altranais before the end of the year.
