Vol. 433 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dangerous Substances Act, 1979.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

86 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if a public awareness campaign is planned to alert the public to the regulations and obligations arising from the implementation of the Dangerous Substances Act, 1979, with particular reference to the carriage/storage or sale of petrol, kerosene and other such substances.

Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 1989, responsibility for promotional activities relating to occupational safety and health, including the operation of the Dangerous Substances Act, 1979, is a matter for the National Authority for Occupational Safety and Health.

Accordingly, the issue raised by the Deputy falls within the authority's remit. I have passed the Deputy's question to the authority for attention.
