Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Lottery Fund.

Godfrey Timmins

Question:

46 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made to provide national lottery funds to Waterford Corporation for the completion of the sports complex at Kilbarry, Waterford; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Under the national lottery funded multi-annual sports capital programme, introduced by Government in 1988, Waterford was designated a regional sports centre and a grant of £0.5 million was allocated for the development of further sports facilities at Kilbarry to complement the existing facilities provided by Waterford Corporation during the 1980's.

The project comprised the provision of a symthetic surface on the athletic track, security fencing, new entrance, car park, athletic equipment and other ancillary works.

A further grant of £200,000 was allocated in 1991 for the provision of an athletic pavilion including spectator accommodation and dressing rooms adjoining the athletic track.

The estimated cost of this development, based on plans prepared by Waterford Corporation, is £0.6 million and additional funds have been sought. These proposals and the request from Waterford Corporation for additional funds are under consideration by my Department. A decision in the matter will be made in the light of the funds to be provided in 1994 for the sports capital programme.
