Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Gorey (Wexford) Community School.

Avril Doyle

Question:

98 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for Education the reason furniture and equipment was not available for the opening of Gorey Community School, County Wexford, for this academic year; and the reason the new school is already too small to cope with the numbers requiring second-level places.

My Department took possession of the Gorey Community School building on 27 August 1993. Loose furniture sufficient for the commencement of classes was delivered within ten days and delivery of all specialist equipment to be completed in the near future.

The school is designed to cater for a long term enrolment of 1,000 pupils. The short term excess of pupils are being accommodated in the substantially refurbished adjacent Mary Ward Building.
