Vol. 434 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant to Co-operation North.

Robert Molloy

Question:

28 Mr. Molloy asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the annual grant by the Irish Government to Co-operation North for each of the years from 1986 to 1992; the proposed assistance for Co-operation North for 1993; the plans, if any, he has to continue and increase funding to that organisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Co-operation North has received grant aid of £50,000 in each of the years 1986-91 and £20,000 in the years 1991-92 under the subhead for North-South and Anglo-Irish Co-operation in the Vote of the Department of Foreign Affairs. It has received £20,000 in respect of 1993.

I am very conscious of the excellent work being undertaken by Co-operation North in the promotion of reconciliation and better understanding between people in both parts of Ireland.

Bearing in mind the invaluable work which is being sponsored under this subhead, it is the Government's intention to allocate resources in 1994 and subsequent years to this subhead at the highest possible level consistent with the budgetary constraints which apply in any given year.
