Vol. 434 No. 3

Written Answers. - Proposed Wood Processing Project.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

123 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will give details of the project he had in mind for the west of Ireland when he announced that Coillte had been approached by the Government to provide a timber processing factory for the area on the occasion of the announcement that the Oriented Strand Board Factory was being located in Waterford; if he will give details of the discussions that took place with Coillte; and the type of wood processing visualised.

At the request of the Government, Coillte are pursuing on a priority basis the question of a wood processing project for the west.

There is a number of possible options for the timber resources of the area but, as I am sure the Deputy will appreciate, it would be premature, as well as proving helpful to overseas competitors, to provide further details at this time.
