Vol. 434 No. 4

Written Answers. - Employment of School Secretary.

Richard Bruton

Question:

213 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the steps, if any, she intends to take to deal with an urgent problem that has arisen regarding the employment of a secretary in a school (details supplied) in Dublin 9 by applying the terms of Circular 25/1/93 or by permitting a job sharing arrangement.

The introduction of a job sharing scheme for school secretaries employed under the Department of Education's scheme for clerk typists is at present under consideration within my Department. The case referred to by the Deputy will be examined on the introduction of any such scheme.

Under the terms of the career break scheme introduced in January 1993 for clerk typists and caretakers, the school authorities in question may grant a career break to their secretary and would be grant aided towards the cost of a replacement. My Department has informed the school authority accordingly.
