Vol. 434 No. 6

Written Answers. - Osteoporosis Screening Service.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

120 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health if he will include the Osteoporosis Screening Service at present being provided in the Anatomy Department of Trinity College, Dublin, under the medical card scheme.

Medical card holders are entitled to a full range of services including general practitioner services, in-patient hospital services, specialist out patient and diagnostic services without charge. Diagnostic services for osteoporosis are available at public general hospitals throughout the country. In the case of a medical card patient, where a general practitioner considers that a patient requires such services as part of an effective care and treatment programme they are provided free of charge at public hospitals.
