Vol. 434 No. 10

Written Answers. - Naval Service Strength.

Máirín Quill

Question:

37 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Defence if he has satisfied himself that the strength of officers in the Naval Service is such that the service can fulfil its role and grant its officers the leave entitlement accumulated whilst engaged on sea-going duties.

I am satisfied that the current strength of officers serving in the Naval Service is sufficient to allow the service carry out the tasks assigned to it while, at the same time, allowing officers to avail of their leave entitlements.

Annual leave is normally availed of during specific ship leave periods, which are included in the annual patrol plan of each ship.
