Vol. 434 No. 10

Written Answers. - Fishermen's Retirement Scheme.

John Browne

Question:

79 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for the Marine if he intends introducing a fishermen's retirement scheme from the age of fifty-five; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is no provision in the National Development Plan for the funding of such a scheme. While there are no proposals or mechanisms at the moment within the framework of Community fisheries policy for such schemes, the matter is nevertheless one of growing interest at Community level. I will be examining, on an ongoing basis, the possibilities for proposed changes to the Community framework in this area.
