Written Answers. - County Kildare Military Facilities.

Question:

142 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence the long term proposals, if any, he has for the development of military facilities and installation in County Kildare, with particular reference to his plans for the various barracks; if he will ensure their upgrading where necessary and the availability of the necessary resources for such upgrading; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The development of military facilities and installations generally, including those in County Kildare, will be considered in the overall context of the proposed reorganisation of the Defence Forces which will be undertaken under the auspices of the Efficiency Audit Group.

Question:

143 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence if he will locate departmental and military headquarters at the Curragh, County Kildare; his views on whether the National Military Headquarters should be located there; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are no plans under consideration to locate departmental and military headquarters at the Curragh, County Kildare. The existing location of departmental and military headquarters permits the efficient and effective discharge of the administration and command of the Defence Forces.
