Question:145 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Marine the future plans, if any, he has for the development of the salmon fishing industry.

A full review of drift netting policy is being carried out at present within the Department of the Marine and this review is expected to be completed in the near future. On receipt of that review there will be full consultation with all the interests involved in the management and exploitation of the salmon resource.
I should point out that whatever the outcome of the review it will not include any element of "banning" drift netting compulsorily.
