Vol. 434 No. 10

Written Answers. - TB Reactors.

Michael Creed

Question:

148 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of TB reactors identified by Department herd tests for each of the years from 1990 to 1992 and to date in 1993; and the percentage of these reactors killed that had lesions.

The number of reactors removed in the years 1990 to 1992 was 41,419, 36,832 and 35,997 respectively. The percentage of these which showed lesions was 28 per cent, 29 per cent and 31.4 per cent respectively in the same years. Up to September 1993, 18,544 reactors have been removed of which 34.3 per cent showed visible lesions.

It should be noted that the absence of visible lesions does not mean the absence of Tuberculosis.
