Question:119 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health if he will give his views on the information aspect of the abortion issue; and the proposals, if any, he has on the matter.
Written Answers. - Abortion Information.
I would refer the Deputy to the Programme for a Partnership Government, which sets out the Government's position on this matter i.e. that it will be necessary to introduce legislation to regulate the position, recognising the sensitivity of the issue throughout the community, and also to introduce legislation in relation to the right to information.
I expect to bring legislative proposals to Government in the near future in relation to the right to information. As regards legislation to regulate the position arising from the Supreme Court judgment in the "X" case, I have already stated in the House that the issue is a complex one and that I will be engaging in widespread consultation before finalising my proposals.
