Vol. 435 No. 5

Written Answers. - Lone Parent Scheme.

Michael Bell

Question:

60 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Social Welfare when sanction for a lone parents scheme as recently introduced will be given for Sonairte, Ninch, Laytown, County Meath; the level of allocation to be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A special allocation of £100,000 was made in this year's budget for grants to voluntary organisations who bring forward initiatives which support lone parents wishing to return to the work force or to education. The scheme was advertised in the national newspapers on 16 August 1993 and some 60 applications have been received, including an application from Sonairte.

All the applications are being examined at present and as soon as decisions are made on the projects to be funded, all the groups concerned will be informed. My intention is that decisions will be made in the near future.
