Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - House Improvement Grants.

Enda Kenny

Question:

171 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make provision in the 1994 budget for the reintroduction of house improvement grants; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are a number of measures currently available to assist house improvement works, including the disabled and essential repairs grants schemes, local authority house improvement loans, the scheme whereby local authorities can have improvement works carried out to the existing accommodation of approved housing applicants as an alternative to rehousing by the local authority, the sub-programme for the provision of bathrooms in local authority dwellings lacking these facilities and the task force on special housing aid for the elderly.

There are no proposals at present for further measures but I intend to keep the need for such measures under review.
