Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - Urban Housing Estates Completion.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

172 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Environment his views on whether there should be a time limit on the completion of urban housing estates and on whether the piecemeal development of a relatively small estate over a period of more than 13 years is unfair to residents; and if he will assist residents in such an estate (details supplied) in Dublin 5 to vindicate their rights by new legislation or by existing statutory instruments.

The Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1982 sets out time limits on the duration of planning permissions. In addition, in granting planning permission, a planning authority may include a condition determining the sequence in which works must be carried out or specifying a period within which works shall be completed.

I understand that the estate referred to has been completed and that the roads and services have been taken in charge by Dublin Corporation.
