Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - Ennis (Clare) Leisure Complex.

Donal Carey

Question:

178 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received an application from Ennis UDC, County Clare, for funds to build a water and leisure complex for Ennis; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No proposal has been received from Ennis UDC to provide a water and leisure complex in Ennis. However, in January this year, my Department received an inquiry from Clare County Council regarding the availability of capital to carry out major refurbishment works at the Ennis swimming pool. The council were subsequently advised that, having regard to the limited capital resources available for the swimming pool programme, and the number of other projects awaiting approval, it would be some considerable time before I would be in a position to give any commitment towards funding the refurbishment.
