Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - Hazardous Waste Disposal Facilities.

John Bruton

Question:

179 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment the number of sites in Ireland currently under consideration as possible locations for the national toxic disposal facility.

As stated in reply to Question No. 89 of 20 October 1993 I intend that firm proposals in this area should await the completion of post-1993 operational programme for environmental services and a seminar on hazardous waste requirements which my Department will jointly organise with Trinity College Dublin in January, 1994.

Any eventual specific proposal for hazardous waste disposal facilities would of course be subject to normal planning requirements, including environmental impact assessment, as well as to strict environmental standards and controls.
