Question:

214 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Health the number of known visually impaired children in the country; and the number in each county.

A voluntary register of visually impaired people is kept by the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) It should be remembered that as registration with the NCBI is not compulsory, the following data may not be comprehensive.

Nationwide, there are 490 people under the age of 18 registered with the NCBI. The breakdown per county is as follows:
