Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - Meath Remedial Teacher Service.

John Bruton

Question:

261 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the schools in County Meath that do not have access to a remedial teacher, but which have applied for and are still awaiting the provision of such a service.

The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the attached list.

I should point out that two additional remedial posts were allocated to County Meath at the commencement of the current school-year, resulting in a further five schools receiving the service. As a result of this allocation 83 per cent of pupils in County Meath now have access to a remedial service.

I will be keeping the question of further need in this area under review as part of a broader commitment to appoint a substantial number of additional remedial teachers in the coming years. The needs of all schools, including the schools in County Meath will be considered in this context.

List of national schools in County Meath which have applied and are still waiting for a Remedial Service: Nobber NS; Kilbride NS; St. Bríd's NS, Batterstown; Coolronan NS; Carnaross NS; Moynalty NS; Scoile Áine, Muigheo; Ughtyneill NS; Kilbeg NS; Carlanstown NS; Moylagh NS; Ballinacree NS; Clonalvey NS; Lismullin NS.
