Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

262 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if her Department will provide school transport for a person (details supplied) in County Kerry in view of the special circumstances of her family.

The person to whom the Deputy refers is entitled to transport to any one of three post-primary schools in the catchment area in which she resides. However, because the person, by choice, attends school in another catchment area, the most my Department can offer is concessionary transport from within that catchment boundary.

Concessionary transport may be allowed, subject to there being seats on the service after all eligible pupils have been facilitated and provided that no extra State cost is incurred. Unfortunately, the transport service to the school of her choice is full to capacity at present.
