Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - Third Level Grants.

Peter Barry

Question:

265 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Education the number of third level students in 1993 who are entitled to grants.

The information concerning the number of third level students in 1993 who are entitled to grants is not yet available in the Department. The number of eligible students in receipt of grant assistance in 1992 was 45,829.

When the information for 1993 becomes available, I will arrange to have it forwarded to the Deputy.

Jim Higgins

Question:

266 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education if a student's holiday earnings, weekend earnings or evening earnings are calculable from the point of view of eligibility for a higher education grant; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Under the terms of the third level student support schemes holiday earnings of the candidate are not taken into account for the purpose of determining eligibility for grant support.

All other earnings including week-end and evening earnings of the candidate are included for means assessment purposes.
