Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - General Nurse Training.

John Browne

Question:

89 Mr. Browne (Carlow/Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Health if the 500 student nurses who have had 28 weeks theory training as against the current 40 weeks training will lose out when it comes to acceptance for general nursing training.

The selection of candidates for 18 month general nurse training is a matter for the individual training schools. All places are open to anyone registered on the psychiatric, sick children's or mental handicap divisions of the An Bord Altranais register of nurses, irrespective of the number of weeks of theoretical instruction they have received in their basic training.
