100 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Health the proposals, if any, he has for the publication of his promised National Health Strategy; if, in particular he will give the way in which the proposed strategy will target inequality as a major determinant of ill health; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I am at present working with my Department on the preparation of the National Health Strategy, which will be published in the near future. In the context of the strategy, I have already stated that equity will be a fundamental core principle underlying all future planning in the services. This will involve not alone the question of equitable access to services but also an analysis of the factors that give rise to disparities in health status and how these can be addressed.
