Vol. 435 No. 10

Written Answers. - Pupil-Teacher Ratio.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

180 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if she has any further plans to improve the pupil/teacher ratio in the coming year; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I refer to my reply to Question No. 161 on 21 October, 1993 in relation to the primary level.

The pupil teacher ratio second-level was reduced in 1991-92, in 1992-93 and again in 1993-94. A further reduction will occur in 1994-95 as a result of the allocation of additional teaching resources arising from the implementation of the provision in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress in relation to ex-quota guidance and vice-principal posts.
