Vol. 435 No. 10

Written Answers. - Dingle (Kerry) School.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

66 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education her policy on the future of Coláiste Íde, Dingle, County Kerry; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Coláiste Íde is an all-Irish secondary boarding school for girls. The Deputy may be aware that, in 1990, the school's trustees, the Mercy Order, announced its decision of withdrawing from the ownership and management of the school in 1996.

The Mercy Order has now informed my Department of its intention to close the school in July 1996. As Coláiste Íde is a voluntary secondary school, this decision is a matter solely for the Mercy Order.
