Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Report on Taxis and Hackneys.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

118 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for the Environment the steps, if any, he has taken to implement the inter-departmental report on taxis and hackneys; if he intends to implement the report in full; if so, when; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Willie Penrose

Question:

125 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for the Environment when he will introduce proposals on the Interdepartmental committee's report on taxis and hackneys.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 118 and 125 together.

Following publication of the report of the inter departmental committee which reviewed the laws governing the licensing of taxis and hackneys, I allowed a period for interested persons and bodies to consider the issues and make submissions to me. I also held detailed discussions with representatives of interest groups. I am now finalising consideration of the points raised during that process with a view to making early decisions.
