Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rowlagh (Dublin) School Facilities.

Austin Currie

Question:

194 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education whether she will make finance available for the provision of a sports hall at Collinstown Park Community College, Rowlagh, Dublin 22, which is located in one of the most disadvantaged areas in the country and where, in a school of 800 pupils, there are no changing facilities or showers and physical education takes place in a small assembly hall; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Due to demands on the capital resources available, priority has been given for some time to the provision of essential teaching spaces. As a result it is not possible in present circumstances to grant aid the provision of physical education facilities at existing schools without such facilities.

Provision of PE facilities in such schools will resume as soon as pressure on available resources for classroom accommodation has eased.
