Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Remedial Teaching.

Jim Higgins

Question:

195 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education the number of children in Cong national school, Cross national school and the Neale national school, County Mayo, who have been deemed by her Department as being in need of remedial teaching.

My Department has received an application for a remedial teacher from the three schools referred to by the Deputy, in which they indicated that there was a total of 74 children in those schools whom they consider are in need of remedial assistance.

I will be keeping the question of further need in this area under review as part of a broader commitment to appoint a substantial number of additional remedial teachers in the coming years. The needs of all schools, including the schools in question, will be considered in this context.
