Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Use of Recycled Paper.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

50 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance if he will introduce a regulation requiring that all Dáil stationery and other paper used by the Oireachtas and Government Departments is at least 40 per cent recycled.

The transfer of funding for stationery and printing from the Government Supplies Agency to individual Departments and Offices from 1 January 1990 means in effect that the decision to use recycled paper is a matter for Departments and Offices themselves with the Government Supplies Agency responding to the requests it receives. I am not therefore in a position to introduce the regulation referred to by the Deputy in his question.

The Government Supplies Agency holds stocks of different sorts of recycled paper and I can confirm that they would be in a position to respond to any requests for recycled paper that they may receive.
