Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Eamhain Macha (Armagh) Interpretative Centre.

John Connor

Question:

51 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Finance if he has visited the archaeological site, Navan Fort or Eamhain Macha, near Armagh, where a highly approved development project and interpretative centre has been established; and if he intends to apply the example of development of this site to other major archaeological sites in the Republic such as Rathcroghan/Carnfree, County Roscommon.

Representatives of the Eamhain Macha development and the Office of Public Works exchanged views and site visits at an early planning stage. While I would hope that these exchanges were mutually beneficial, it has been the experience that such developments must be specifically tailored to meet the needs of each individual site.

There are no current plans to provide such facilities at Rathcroghan/Carnfree.
