Question:

71 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of widows in receipt of widows and orphans pension; and the annual cost of this.

There are currently 86,833 recipients of widow's and orphan's (contributory) pensions, 19,062 recipients of widow's and orphan's (non-contributory) pensions and a further 1,527 widows in receipt of a lone parent's allowance.

Expenditure on the various schemes is as set out below:
