Vol. 436 No. 2

Written Answers. - Roads Block Grant.

Liz McManus

Question:

92 Ms McManus asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the roads block grant for Bray UDC, County Wicklow, is totally inadequate in view of the area of responsibility held by the UDC compared to other towns of similar size.

The discretionary block grant allocated to Bray Urban District Council is intended to supplement expenditure from the council's own resources on the maintenance and improvement of urban roads. Two councils, one of which was Bray UDC, received block grant allocations of £32,000 this year, representing the highest such grants notified to Urban District Councils. I am satisfied that the allocation in this case is reasonable having regard to the overall provision available to me for urban roads and the competing demands from other areas.
