Vol. 436 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Project Funding.

Ivan Yates

Question:

93 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment if a project (details supplied) in County Tipperary is receiving public funding; if so, if he will ensure that public tendering procedures and practices will apply in so far as the lowest tender is concerned; and when a decision will be made on the selection of the tender for the main contract.

My Department's involvement with any individual project under the voluntary housing capital assistance scheme relates primarily to the provision of funds for the project within the allocation available in the Public Capital Programme. The administration of the scheme and the certification that particular projects comply with the terms of the scheme and that the cost is reasonable and value for money, are the responsibility of the local authority, in this instance Tipperary (NR) County Council. The engagement of a contractor is a matter for the approved body promoting the project.

An application for funding for this project is at present under consideration and Tipperary (NR) County Council will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible. However, in the event of its approval the estimated cost of the project is such as to warrant maximum grants under the scheme, leaving the promoters responsible for a significant balance.
