Vol. 436 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rights of Tenants at Temple Buildings.

Austin Currie

Question:

50 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Justice whether she has received from the Minister of State at the Department of the Environment a submission concerning the rights of tenants at Temple Buildings, Dominick Street, Dublin 1; if so, the date of receipt; the substance of such a submission; and the action, if any, she has taken or intends to take in relation to the matter.

I received a submission from the Minister of State at the Department of the Environment along the lines referred to in the question but I would not consider it appropriate to give any further detail other than to confirm that as part of the submission my attention was drawn to the concerns of the residents at Temple Buildings.

The Deputy will appreciate that there are no powers available to me to intervene in the situation at Temple Buildings. However, as I have indicated to the House previously, I am carrying out an assessment of landlord and tenant legislation particularly in relation to the provisions governing security of tenure.
