Vol. 436 No. 3

Written Answers. - Appointment of Psychologists.

Richard Bruton

Question:

67 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice when the competition for the appointment of psychologists in her Department was held in view of her reply to Parliamentary Question No. 43 on 14 October 1993; when the successful candidates were notified; and the place the person who has taken up duty in her Department obtained in the competition.

Applications for appointment as psychologist in the prison service of my Department were invited by the Civil Service Commission in August 1992 and the closing date for the receipt of applications was 17 September 1992. The first offers of appointment arising from the competition were made in February 1993 but, due to protracted correspondence with candidates about aspects of conditions of service, mainly starting salaries, no appointment was made until 4 October 1993. The placing of candidates in the competition is confidential between the Civil Service Commission and the individuals concerned.
