74 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Finance his views on the necessity of conducting currency policy and regulation of the financial sector in such ways as to maximise employment in view of the fact that 50 per cent of unemployment has been attributed to domestic economic management.

I can assure the Deputy that the maintenance and creation of sustainable employment is always a priority in the formulation of Government policy. The framing of regulatory arrangements always takes account of their impact on employment in the financial services sector.
