Vol. 436 No. 3
88 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Defence the height restrictions which exist for recruits to the Naval and Defence forces for officers and non-commissioned recruits; and the reason the regulations are not standarised.
At present the minimum height requirement for recruits for general service in the Permanent Defence Force is 157 centimetres (62 inches) for males and 144 centimetres (58) inches for females.
The minimum height requirement for cadets and direct entry officers is 168 centimetres (66 inches) for males and 158 centimetres (62 inches) for females, with the exception of Air Corps cadets (male and female) who must have a minimum height of 168 centimetres (66 inches) and a maximum height of 188 centimetres (74 inches).
The height requirements detailed above are at present under review.
