Vol. 436 No. 3

Written Answers. - Women Appointees to State Boards.

Mary Wallace

Question:

103 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the progress, if any, that is being made in relation to the Government commitment to the appointment of women to account for 40 per cent of State boards; the total number of State board positions which depend on Government appointment; and the total number of women who are currently filling those posts.

As a result of the Government's commitment, to which the Deputy refers, the number of women being appointed to State boards is increasing and I am pleased at the progress which is being made. There are over 3,100 members on State boards of which almost 19 per cent are women. About 1,600 members are chosen by the Government or by Minister and I will write to the Deputy when I have up to date information on the number of these who are women.
