Vol. 436 No. 4

Written Answers. - Balbriggan (Dublin) Treatment Plant.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

155 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment the typical procedure and timescale made in provision of a full sewage treatement plant for Balbriggan, County Dublin, in view of the fact that a preliminary report by consultants approved by his Department is soon to be submitted to him.

I refer to the reply to Question No. 26 of 20 October 1993.

Water and sanitary services schemes normally involve the following stages of preparation, as a minimum prior to construction: (a) preliminary report; (b) contract document-detailed design preparation; (c) assessment of tenders.

In view of its full responsibilty for the financing of such schemes, reference to my Department is required at each of these stages. It is not possible to give a general estimate of the timescale for schemes, given the many differences of scale, location, budget, etc. involved.
