Vol. 436 No. 5

Written Answers. - Compulsory Sheep Dipping.

Robert Molloy

Question:

152 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to whether the Connacht/Ulster Regional Sheep Dipping Committee at its meeting on 19 October 1993, passed the resolution that the Connacht/Ulster (Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan) Sheep Dipping Committee request the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry that no change be made regarding the compulsory dipping of sheep under the Disease of Animal Acts, 1966, and the Sheep Dipping Orders 1965 to 1993, in view of the importance of the export of live sheep and also in view of the fact that 75 per cent of the sheep population comes from within these counties; and his views on the matter.

I am aware of the resolution in question. I have no immediate plans to change the existing sheep dipping arrangements, which are implemented by the local authorities under the Sheep Dipping Orders, 1965 to 1993. However, various aspects of the arrangements are being kept under review.
