Vol. 436 No. 5

Written Answers. - Redundancy Regulations.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

82 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment whether he has any plans to restructure redundancy regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy may have in mind the amendment of the Protection of Employment Act, 1977 which is necessary to implement the terms of Council Directive 92/56/EC — on collective redundancies. That Directive is due to be implemented before the end of June 1994.

This amendment will increase the information the employer must give to the workers' representatives, broaden the basis for consultations and extend the type of redundancy situation to which the Act applies.
