Alan M. Dukes

Question:

83 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the plans, if any, he has to implement the proposed EC action to strengthen consumer rights in the Single Market.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

87 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the plans, if any, he has to implement the EC three year action plan to strengthen consumer rights in the context of a single market.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 79, 83 and 87 together.

The plan to which the Deputies refer has been adopted and will be implemented during 1993-95 by the Commission of the European Community on its own responsibility.
Nevertheless, I welcome the direction and thrust of the Plan particularly its initiatives relating to consumer information, access to justice, greater transparency of transfrontier payments and strengthening consumer organisations in certain member states, including Ireland.
