Vol. 436 No. 8

Written Answers. - Muckross (Kerry) Fishery Lease.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

56 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance if he will ensure that the lease of beat 3, Muckross, Killarney, County Kerry, is allowed to remain with the Laune Anglers Club; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Muckross fishery was leased to the Central Fisheries Board for a two year trial period. The Central Fisheries Board sublet beat 3 to the Laune Anglers Club for this period, with the agreement of the Office of Public Works.

The trial period is due to end on 31 December 1993 and the future arrangements are under review at present. I requested the Office of Public Works to invite comments from the public on the present agreement, as part of this review. The deadline for receipt of submissions is Friday, 10 December. A decision on the future arrangements for managing the fishery will be made before the end of the year.
