Vol. 436 No. 8

Written Answers. - Pass/Honours Degree Teachers.

Liam Fitzgerald

Question:

95 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education the way in which the percentage of those who have an honours degree allowance from a specialist teacher course run by her Department, that is woodwork, metalwork and general and rural science, compares with university graduates holding a BA, BSC or BComm.

Question:

97 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education the percentage of teachers who qualified for a pass/honours degree allowance in the years 1968-78 in woodwork from Cork TEW (Diploma) and Gorey MI, metalwork from Sligo MI, domestic science from Sion Hill DSI, art from Cork School of Art, Limerick School of Design and Dublin School of Design, music from Maynooth and general and rural science from Cork.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 95 and 97 together.

The teacher records held by my Department are not structured in such a way as to readily identify the teachers concerned.

The information requested by the Deputy would take an inordinate amount of time to compile and I am satisfied that the allocation of staff to this task would not be warranted at this time.
