Vol. 437 No. 1

Written Answers. - Electricity Interconnector.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

29 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the prospects, if any, for the reopening of the electricity interconnector with Northern Ireland which has now been out of commission for over 18 years and the loss of which increases the price of electricity here.

It would be my wish that the restoration of the electricity link with Northern Ireland be undertaken at the earliest opportunity, considering the economic advantages it would offer to both parties. However, as the Deputy is aware, the difficulty with the restoration of this link is primarily one of security. I can assure the Deputy that this issue is kept under constant review by the relevant authorities on both sides of the Border.
